Nationals - Div 2 05-06

Report

The Cardiff Red Hawks were undefeated in their first national championship competition this bank holiday weekend. The team faced a major task in qualifying from the hardest group in the competition but took to this task with every ounce of energy and skill to finish second to the reigning champs due to penalty minutes. The quarter finals saw the Hawks face the home side and the 2004 winners the Sheffield Bears, despite being outnumbered the Hawks came out flying and qualified with ease, shutting out the bears.

The semi finals saw the Hawks facing the Nottingham Mavericks once more, in what was to be a tough and gritty game, despite this the Hawks rose to the occasion to send the former champions home early.

Despite a hard weekend the final soon came for the Hawks who were now only one game away from the Hopkins Plate. The Hawks took to the ice to face the Northern Conference Northumbria Flames and soon doused them with four goals in the first period, despite a quiet second period the Hawks stepped it up to seal the win with a 9-0 shutout.
